New Creation Meditation

June 8, 2012

Start seated comfortably. Feet are level on the floor if you are seated in a chair. Hands come to a neutral place. Sit up tall, whether you are sitting in a chair or on the floor. Breathe deeply. Chest is open for deep breathing. Give yourself some time to quiet your mind. Be patient with yourself. This is not easy.

Once the rhythm of your breath has taken you away, meditate on these words: “In reference of your former manner of life, you lay aside the old self, which is being corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit, and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.”Ephesians 4: 22-23

We all remember times we were without faith in Christ, dark moments of disconnect and fear. We are all seared with memories of our own selfishness, anger, hatred. As you breathe in, embrace the new creation you can become. As you exhale remember the darkness from which you are now freed.

Inhale. “be renewed in the spirit of your mind”

Exhale. “you were corrupted with lusts and deceit”

Inhale. I am full of love. I am full of joy.

Exhale. I was full of darkness. I was full of hate.

Inhale. “I am created in the likeness of God: righteousness. Holiness. Truth.”

Exhale. “I lay aside my old self.”

Blessings and Peace to you.

  1. It sure is hard to quiet my mind and my heart. It is hard to relax unless I completely forget about myself. It would be good practice. Out with the old, and in with the new! May God guide you and each one who practices this technique.
