Bare

file0001031918094It was a busy Thursday at the office and I sat down on my mat, my bare feet stared up at me, residues of dry skin and shoe dirt caked on my toes. Calluses worn from my shoes marked every one of them but yoga practice beckoned me to release my bare feet.

Yoga reveals vulnerable parts of our bodies in order to deepen our practice and connect us emotionally and spiritually with the postures.

We open our chests, pushing our hearts forward and reaching our arms backward. We allow our palms to face up. We reveal our toes.

There is something very liberating about it. Once you get through your insecurities. To be able to remove your shoes and socks and wiggle your toes, mounding them into the earth and stretching them in directions foreign to them.

Not to mention the physical benefits of bare feet in yoga. It is a very important element. Not only does it help with balance and stability in your postures, it strengthens and just feels great.

Have you ever felt insecure with your bare feet in a yoga class or other exercise class? Why do you think it is hard for us to expose our feet? Palms? Hearts?
