How can yoga affect fertility? Of all of the systems that benefit from yoga, the endocrine is the one we hear least about. Yet the benefits are still there.
I found my answers in the bandhas.
There are six bandhas in the body. A bandha is a lock you engage during postures. The Great Lock is what is known as the Maha Bandha. The Maha Bandha is a combination of three locks: the pelvis, the abdomen, and the thyroid. When Maha Bandha is engaged, you are stimulating the endocrine system. Here is how it works.
Standing separate leg stretching uses the pelvis and the abdominals. The neck is straight and the blood flow is going to the brain to nourish the hypothalamus and pituitary gland.
Standing separate leg head to knee engages all three bandhas. The pelvis and abdominals are used. And the third bandha, the throat choke sensation that is a result of tucking chin to chest, is used as well.
Eagle pose uses the squeeze of your thighs to maintain balance. But it also exercises your sex organs.
Rabbit uses the chin to chest approach to aid in the stretch of your back, yet also stimulating the thyroid. Once again, it is bringing fresh blood to your brain while squeezing belly to spine, and stimulating your organs.
Great info, Bethany. Thanks for sharing!
