When people first hear the word “yoga” they cringe and imagine themselves tied up in awkward knots. There was a time in America where this was a reality. Yet since then, a yoga revolution has occurred. Yoga has become a practice for everyone. No matter your age or body type, yoga is for you. You do not have to be able to lie on your stomach with your feet on your head or do a headstand to be a yogi. Yoga is more than your asana (posture practice).
Yoga is commitment to your body. Yes. But yoga is also a commitment to a philosophy of life. Key principles of which, correspond with the principles of scripture. It is a commitment to love all beings. It is a commitment to joy. It is a commitment to desire others to share in your joy. Yoga is for everyone.
Beth Shaw, founder of Yogafit, said, “If you can breathe, you can do yoga.”
Yoga is for everyone because yoga is a journey of life. It begins with simple things like learning to breathe and meditate, stretching for short periods of time. And then transforms into a beautiful practice of mind, body, and spirit. Feeling confidence and encouragement in your personal accomplishments. And feeling self fulfillment and purpose in Christ, the center of our meditation.
Where are you in your journey? If you have not begun yet, would you consider it?
