Chasing After the Wind

April 5, 2012

Yoga philosophy teaches that you can find all that you lack within yourself. We humans are a chasing race. Most people feel they spend all of their lives chasing a dream.  For some it’s a spouse or children. Others chase the dream of a job they enjoy, which gives them purpose. But overall, it is a searching for completion. We all have questions about life and who we are, what this life means. Yoga teaches that we have the potential to find contentment within ourselves.

Yet, within myself is a propensity to fail, an ability of selfishness and pride. It doesn’t take me long with personal life experiences to see I am in need of restoration.

I am in need of something greater outside myself to present my missing pieces.

Only our Creator, the one who has ordained our steps, who knows the number of hairs on our head and knows when we sleep and when we rise can complete our lives with His loving Spirit. All other ambitions are a chasing after the wind.

What goals have you set as your greatest priorities? Have you found contentment in these things?

  1. My goal is to glorify God, and be a blessing to others. Even though, speaking from my human self, it would seem like my goal is to be happy. But I have come to realize that the only way to be happy is to focus on God and others. The world will tell us to look inside ourselves for peace, but we really need to look to God for the true peace. If I find it inside myself, it is only because God’s Spirit is living in me.

I get discontented a lot, but then God reminds me to look into His Word again, and see His beautiful promises and His wonderful Grace!

  2. That’s a great line: “I am in need of something greater outside myself to present my missing pieces.” I might think I know…but I have no idea.

My priorities are to do well with what I’ve got now–whether it’s responsibilities with family and friends, work, or church. I used to think I need to always be doing more to achieve contentment. Now I’m kind of in a place where I think I am where I am for a reason. My job is to do well where I am, and God will take care of the rest. Ultimately, it’s all about Him anyway, and He’s got my whole world in His hands.

I’m so very thrilled to come across this blog. Thank you for your post. I look forward to reading more of them. And as for my goals, I just try to keep them simple and as true to myself and God as possible. If we are consistently listening for direction our goals are not even really necessary because they will be HIS goals.
