What Pushes Us Forward

October 2, 2012

We can learn a lot about how to motivate ourselves by learning more about our own personalities. A simple understanding of extrovert and introvert helps us to understand ourselves a lot better.

We all have ambitions. Whether big or small, we have desires to be good at something. Maybe it is something you get paid for or just a hobby but we all strive to meet our personal goals. We all desire to create something worthy of praise, something intelligent and original. The problem comes when we call on motivation to push us forward.

You can’t always diagnose an extrovert or introvert from the outside. We change in different zones of comfort. And many times, life experiences shape our social skills. Sometimes, we force ourselves to go against what is comfortable to us because it is necessary for the function of our roles.

But I’ve learned that extrovert/introvert goes deeper than our social skills. It is all about where we get our energy.

I do everything better when I can be with people. When I knit, it is for people. I don’t think I’ve ever made anything for myself. When I practice piano it is for others to hear. When I exercise, I am motivated most when others are with me. I would rather go to the gym than practice at home.

Knowing these things about ourselves can help us to know how best to motivate ourself to meet our exercise goals.

What are you? How can you use this knowledge to reach your fitness goals?

  1. I guess I’m an introvert, but God has helped me to come out of myself to minister to other people.I can do things because God helps me. But I don’t
have to change the way God made my personality, when I know that He has made me a certain way for His purpose. Even though I usually exercise alone, it really helps to have someone with me to be more motivated. I do a lot of things alone, but I really prefer to have someone encouraging me.
