A Yoga Breath in the Midst of Your Day

file000884219889Your throat is dry and scratchy and you think you are going hoarse. Your eyes are dry and strained, your feet are throbbing, and you can’t remember the last time you were able to stop for even the bathroom. Stress. We have all experienced the tension of life, whether it is at home or at work. And we have all battled the effects it has on our bodies and our emotions.

I admit; it is really hard to make healthy choices when stressed.

When we are stressed, we want a little comfort. Our brains have been working hard all day and we just want to lie down and stuff our faces with dopamine producing carbohydrates. Yes! Comfort food feels really good. But there are other ways to deal with stress outside that fifth piece of pizza or that third glass of wine. And here is something I am learning more about:

Take 5 minutes. Get away from the busyness. Maybe it is a lunch break or maybe your toddler’s naptime, but take a break to breathe. Connect with your breath. Connect with truth. It is so easy to let your mind get so busy that we get bogged down and sad, and that is when we begin to forget truth. Set your thoughts on one simple truth. You can pick it, whatever God puts in your heart that you need at the moment and say it like a prayer on your breath.

(Breathe in) God (Breathe out) is good.

(Breathe in ) I (Breathe Out) am thankful.

(Breathe in) His Spirit (Breathe Out) is here.

(Breathe In) I (Breathe Out) am loved.

Let your mind reset. And remember how powerful you are over temptation. Powerful because of the Truth you know.
