I am a terrible seamstress. Emphasis on the word “stress”. In fact, one thing I have learned about myself is that I dabble in a lot of crafty hobbies that I mildly enjoy but never take the time to perfect.
Perfectionism has never been a trait of mine. I am easily content, which I always viewed as a good thing but am now learning to find a more balanced approach to this perspective of life.
I believe it is a good thing for us all to learn new skills. That’s why I am always in the middle of a good book or two. It’s why I take further education classes.
But it’s not just about learning the new skill. It’s about taking the time to learn it well.
Jon Acuff pointed out in his book, “Do Over” that we oftentimes continue to do the same thing over and over as if we are doing it the first time every time. That has been the truth for me. If I took the time to youtube how to tighten my thread on my sewing machine, I could save a lot of time in the long run but often I get lazy and power through, being content with flaws.
Yoga is a new skill for a lot of people right now. And I applaud everyone I have encountered recently who have taken the time and courage to step out and try something new. But now that you have fallen in love with the practice, like I have. Let’s take the time to break down and examine our poses. When we can achieve the proper alignment of a pose, we prevent injury and give our body the full benefits of the pose. When we discipline ourselves to practice even just 15 minutes a day, we can truly see how it can change your whole day.
It can change your whole life.
Dare to be great. Challenge yourself and set goals. The first step is believing yourself to be the kind of person who will do what they say they will do. Then believe you can grow. Did you add one yoga class to your week? Great! Ask me about adding a second. You can achieve your goals and transform your life. It’s never too late.
