Energy out of the Quiet

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAWhat do you see when you close your eyes? What do you hear in the silence? What is revealed when your breath becomes your only awareness? Having practiced meditation some myself, I am getting gradually better at it but there are two very different interpretations of meditation in my social circles.

Meditation in the traditional yoga sense is beautiful. It is a practice that is supposed to release energy and allow us to reach an ultimate awareness of self. But this is very different from the other type of meditation that is familiar to me, Christian meditation.

In Christian meditation you focus on one word, phrase, or maybe aspect of God. Like all interpretations, you seek to clear distractions from your brain but yoga philosophy focuses on our relationship with our Consciousness while Christian meditation focuses on our relationship with Christ.

I don’t disagree that there are things we can learn about ourselves, buried fears and anxieties that can clog our energy flow, cause health problems, and hinder relationships with God and others. Meditation can help us confront those issues but once I come to the light with revelations about myself, it seems so dark and empty to still be only together with your Self. Praise God, He is always near during our meditations. Nothing can separate us from His love. And nothing can define our identities better than His love.

Do you have a time of meditation? Or maybe just a quiet time? What types of insight do you gain? What settings work best for your meditations?
